Suboxone and Narcotic Addiction

Narcotic addiction is a growing problem that affects people from every level of society.  Stopping narcotics on your own is very difficult and staying off narcotics for very long is even harder.  There is a new medication that can help called Suboxone.

It blocks the effect of other narcotics such as Vicoden or heroin.  Although Suboxone itself is a narcotic it does not stimulate narcotic receptors in the same way as other narcotics like Vicoden or heroin do so it does not cause you to feel high.  It allows the brain to recover from the effects of long-term narcotic use, and prevents the symptoms of acute narcotic withdrawal.

Unlike Methadone, you do not need to go to a clinic every day to get your dosage of medication.  You can receive a prescription for Suboxone that you get filled at your local pharmacy like any other medication.

This may not be a treatment you can receive at your primary care because only some doctors have the special license required to write prescriptions for Suboxone for narcotic addiction.  Dr. Brawley, at Livonia Family Medicine is one of the doctors that has a special license to use Suboxone in narcotic addicted patients.
